Vicar's Newsletter for 5 February

Dear all,

You may have already heard the news by now that I am retiring from stipendiary ministry on 1st August this year when I turn 65. Having spoken with the churchwardens last week, I then emailed all PCC members on Sunday afternoon giving permission to start sharing this news. I am giving 6 months' notice instead of the minimum 3 months as there is much to organise. I shall be moving to Chesterfield in Derbyshire in August. After a break I shall apply for permission to officiate in the Diocese of Derby.

Archdeacon Andy Broom will be meeting in the first instance with all the benefice churchwardens together at some point before Easter. After Easter he will call a joint meeting of all the PCCs of the benefice. Obviously, I will not be involved in either of those meetings, or any subsequent planning meetings concerning the future of the benefice as parish profiles are prepared. The profiles will form a very important part of the advert that will go out when you are ready to advertise for a new incumbent.

An impending vacancy can bring a measure of uncertainty or even anxiety. The Sovereign Lord is in charge and he has all things in his control. A relevant verse for all of us at this time is this: '"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" Jeremiah 29:11a

May I take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing partnership in the gospel and for your commitment and dedication to the Kingdom work of the benefice parishes.

I am still around for the next 6 months as mission and ministry continues, and there is also plenty to do as we prepare for the vacancy. I shall be praying for you and ask that you would pray for me too. Thank you.
